National Foster Care Month

Each May, Heart of Adoptions, Inc. looks forward to celebrating National Foster Care Month. This is a time for us to recognize and honor how foster care enhances and enriches the lives of children all across the country. It also gives us the opportunity to look forward and discuss the future of foster care in Florida and the United States as a whole.

National Foster Care Month started in 1988, when President Ronald Reagan chose to honor the foster parents who opened their hearts and homes to children in need. Although the original spirit of National Foster Care Month remains the same, the theme changes each year. This year the theme is: “Foster Care as a Support to Families, Not a Substitute for Parents.” Activities around this theme aim to focus on increasing the visibility of the needs of children in foster care and promoting reunification.

For more information and resources on programs and practices that promote permanency for children and youth, as well as information on special Foster Care Month initiatives, you can visit the  National Foster Care Month website.
